Lisa and Jonathan are a husband and wife team who are committed to musical excellence in the education of children of any age. Well versed in the Suzuki method, their teaching techniques are based on positive reinforcement, a nurturing environment, and the belief that any child can succeed.
Lisa Humphrey
recently moved back to Bellingham after serving for three years as faculty for the Hartt School Community Division in Hartford, Connecticut, where she taught traditional and Suzuki violin and viola lessons. Lisa brings with her extensive experience as a teacher of young children. She has studied violin pedagogy with Mimi Zweig, Linda Fiore, and Teri Einfeldt and holds a masters degree in viola performance from Indiana University. Originally from Bellingham, Lisa has performed solo, chamber, and orchestral music around the country and throughout Russia and Armenia. She is a certified Suzuki teacher and takes a particular interest in providing lessons to public school students, where she herself began her musical studies.
Jonathan Humphrey
is a conservatory trained double bassist and holds a bachelors degree from the Hartt School of Music and a masters degree in Elementary Education from WGU. He has been teaching privately for sixteen years and has extensive experience teaching groups and individuals. Jonathan combines his broad training to offer a unique, multi-angled teaching approach. Jonathan has studied pedagogy extensively and is Suzuki certified. His background also includes songwriting, composition, jazz improvisation, arrangement, and much more. He also takes particular interest in providing lessons to public school students, where he began his musical studies. Jonathan has also worked extensively in the public schools.
